Overview

Mission

To provide the highest quality facilities and a physical environment that supports and promotes the academic programs of The Ohio State University at Newark and Central Ohio Technical College.

The Department of Facilities Planning and Operations oversees 20 buildings, including 9 academic facilities, 3 residence halls, as well as 200 acres of grounds at the Newark campus. Extended campuses in Coshocton, Mount Vernon and Pataskala total 96,000 square feet.

Maintenance, Custodial and Grounds

The Maintenance, Custodial and Grounds crews are responsible for:

  • building operations and maintenance
  • cleaning services
  • lawn and landscape services

Project Management

The Project Management office is responsible for:

  • campus construction
  • renovation and restoration projects
  • current and future space planning

Public Safety

The Public Safety office is responsible for:

  •  safety of faculty, staff and students
  • traffic, parking
  • vehicle permits
  • criminal background checks
  • vehicle assistance

Space Management

The Space Management office is responsible for:

  • the creation of a master schedule for classrooms and laboratories each semester
  • the scheduling of meetings and events for faculty, staff and students
  • event support

Goals

Campus Space Usage Rules

Central Ohio Technical College and The Ohio State University at Newark are dedicated to promoting the free exchange of ideas on campus and ensuring the continued safe and effective operation of the institutions. Use of space is reserved for the direct and indirect support of the institutions’ teaching, research, and service missions, administrative functions, and students’ campus-life activities. The institutions may limit access to, or use of their space as may be necessary to provide for the orderly conduct of the institutions’ missions, administrative functions, and students’ campus-life activities.

Jane Camlin-Tammen Family Reserve

Policies and Procedures

This document describes the policies and procedures for use of the Camlin-Tammen Reserve. This property consists of 31 acres of mature forest growth and is located west of the campus on Country Club Drive in Newark, Ohio.  This property is owned by Central Ohio Technical College but will be used to support teaching and research as a land laboratory for both COTC and The Ohio State University at Newark.

Equipment and Furniture Guidance for Remote Work

Staff and faculty who work remotely at their own request will not be provided office furniture nor services (e.g. internet or phone service) for remote work, unless otherwise required by law.

Staff who are required by the college or university to work remotely will be provided or reimbursed for certain equipment or expenses as agreed upon with the Ohio State Newark dean and director and/or the COTC president.

Faculty Office Assignment Policy

  1. The superintendent of facilities shall administer this policy.
  2. The person administering the assignment of faculty office space will notify all eligible faculty members of available office space before the end of April (via the most recent faculty email directory). Faculty members are responsible for submitting a request for a change of office space by the stated deadline in this communication.
