Construction of the much-anticipated John and Mary Alford Center
for Science and Technology on the shared Newark campus of The

is complete, and the public is invited to tour the brand-new STEM
facility at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, August 13 at 9

undergo a complete renovation, renewing the structure’s lifespan
and allowing both institutions to meet the needs of students
throughout the 21st century.
The Ohio State University at
Newark and Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) regretfully
announce that the Independence Day concert and fireworks event
held at the shared campus is cancelled for the second year.
Faith Phillips is passionate about helping students find a way to
access a college education. As the director of student financial
services at Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) and The Ohio
State University at Newark, she has made it possible for
countless students to overcome financial barriers to degree
completion. Recently Phillips was presented the Alex Murdoch
Service Award by her peers in the Ohio Association of Student
Financial Aid Administrators (OASFAA) for putting her “whole
heart and soul into [her] community and our association.”
Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) and The Ohio State University at
Newark’s Community Intercultural Relations Committee (CIRC)
was proud to honor one individual and two local organizations as
the 2020 Diversity and Inclusion Champion Award recipients during
the 12th Annual Community Intercultural Relations Conference,
Racial Justice Requires Equity and Me, on
Friday, April 9.
Mike Johnson had a motto: Always do the right thing because it’s
the right thing to do. Perhaps that is why all of his children
pursued careers protecting and caring for others. And they all
began at COTC.
Central Ohio Technical College’s (COTC) Pataskala campus at 8660
E. Broad St. will reopen for classes in autumn 2021 after a $4.2
million renovation that will bring convenient, in-demand and
affordable education leading to a career or bachelor’s degree to
more central Ohio residents.

There’s still time to register for the second annual Blue Line
Twilight Run 5K and 10K, which will be held in person on
Saturday, May 1, 7 p.m., at Rotary Park, adjacent to the Central
Ohio Technical College (COTC) Newark campus.
The current worldwide pandemic has impacted us all in one way or
another. Loss of wages or a job, lack of food and even
homelessness have happened to many including those in our area.
Central Ohio Technical College’s (COTC) chapter of Phi Theta
Kappa (PTK), Alpha Theta Zeta, members decided to do their part
to help build and support the community.
