Statement of Purpose
The purpose of the Social and Behavioral Sciences department is to prepare students in the essential principles of the social and behavioral sciences as they relate to competencies in the technologies in general life skills.

How quickly can I complete the Nursing and Allied Health Technologies program?
Students interested in the Digital Media Design program can quickly complete a certificate and/or an associate degree.
There is a certificate students can complete quickly in just two semesters in the Digital Media Design Technology program.
Students who complete the certificate have earned credits that can be applied towards the Digital Media Design Technology associate degree.
The amount of time it takes a student to complete the Digital Media Design Technology certificate and/or associate degree depends upon how many courses are taken per semester.
Students who attend full-time (and take 3-5 classes on average per semester) will complete quicker than students who attend part-time (and take 1-2 classes on average per semester).
The amount of time it takes a student to complete the Digital Media Design program also depends upon whether a student double majors.
What classes do I need to take?
The courses students need to take to complete a certificate or degree are listed in a Plan of Study. The Digital Media Design Technology Program has three Plans of Study.
Can I take classes online or face-to-face?
Students interested in the Digital Media Design Technology program have the flexibility to take classes face-to-face or online.
Can I pursue a bachelor’s degree after I complete an associate degree?
Students interested in continuing on to pursue a bachelor’s degree can consider transferring to a four-year college or university. COTC has several transfer agreements with four-year colleges.

What type of financial assistance is available to help me pay for college?
COTC awards a million dollars in scholarship to students each year!
Students are encouraged to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aide (FAFSA) to be considered for grants, scholarships, and loans.
Students who complete a FAFSA are automatically considered for some scholarships. Other scholarships <link to scholarships page> require an application.

Fire Science Technology – Learning Outcomes
The COTC Fire Science Technology Program awards an Associate of Applied Science Degree through an excellent curriculum designed to provide education and skills essential for those who are seasoned professionals seeking career advancement and for those who are new to Fire Science and EMS professions and would like to pursue a career in these fields. COTC’s Associate Degree was the first FESHE recognized program in central Ohio.
Lockers
Lockers may be rented from Recreation Sports (Adena Hall) during the year for individuals to secure their belongings. Other lockers, located at various places on campus, are available through Student Life Disability Services with priority given to students with disabilities. Maximizing Transfer Potential and Credits
Renovation 2020-2021: What’s New
The Pataskala campus has reopened for classes after a $4.2 million renovation. The project included a complete renovation of 16,000 square feet of the building’s interior. Key upgrades include:
- Nursing and allied health skills labs
- Science and computer labs
- Digital media technology lab
- Classroom and academic support spaces
- Student collaboration spaces
- Testing center
- Heating, ventilation, air conditioning and fire suppression systems
The renovation enables COTC to expand academic offerings in the high-demand fields of nursing and information technology, among possible others. The renovated facility’s increased capacity will allow more students convenient access to COTC’s affordable associate degrees and certificates and help local employers fill demand for skilled workers. Students benefit from modern classroom, lab and study spaces conducive to learning in a technology-driven world.
