Frequently Asked Questions
Can I take classes online or face to face?
At COTC students have the flexibility to take classes face-to-face and online.
Can I pursue a bachelor’s degree after I complete an associate degree?
Students interested in continuing on to pursue a bachelor’s degree can consider transferring to a four-year college or university. COTC has several transfer agreements with four-year colleges.
Four-year colleges and universities often have opportunities for students to create a custom degree. Degrees that are custom are often referred to as interdisciplinary study.
What type of financial assistance is available to help me pay for college?
COTC awards $1 million in scholarships to students each year.
Every student is encouraged to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for grants, scholarships and loans.
Students who complete a FAFSA are automatically considered for some scholarships. Other scholarships require an application.

Dropping, Withdrawing and Non-Attendance
Schedule Change
The Student Financial Aid Enrollment Change Policy requires a student to complete all of their add/drop changes by the census date of each course. (Contact the Office of Financial Aid for specific dates.) If a student adds or drops classes anytime up to and including the census date, financial aid will be adjusted. If changes are made after this date, financial aid will not be adjusted unless the student did not attend the class or withdrew from all of their classes.
Disbursements, Refunds and Bookstore Charges
Disbursements
Financial aid funds must first be used to pay tuition and fees and then any other educational expenses. Make a payment on myCOTC under the Student Financial Services box. All fees, including penalties, must be paid according to the deadline indicated in the email.
Verification
Students who apply for Federal Financial Aid may be selected for a process called verification and must submit documents to confirm the information reported on the FAFSA is accurate.
Suzanne Smith
Whether Suzanne Smith is traveling the globe working on communications and navigation for the U.S. Air Force, keeping busy raising a family or attending classes to become a registered nurse, Smith is a self-dubbed “do-er,” and she’s found her fit at Central Ohio Technical College.
Temporary/Provisional Accommodations
Students with temporary injuries, such as a broken leg or arm, concussion, or surgery recovery, can receive temporary services through SLDS. Students should contact SLDS to register for a temporary injury.
Under Title IX, schools are required to provide pregnant students and students with related conditions such as childbirth or false pregnancy, with at least the same special services as they provide to students with other temporary conditions. The Title IX Coordinator will work in conjunction with SLDS where pregnant students and those with related medical conditions may also be eligible for disability protections and services under the ADA, depending upon their condition. Occasional provisional accommodations may be approved for students who are in the process of registering with SLDS. These provisional accommodations are typically approved for one semester and may be approved permanently upon receipt of appropriate documentation.
