Respiratory Therapy Technology Application Requirements
This is a competitive, selective enrollment program. To be admitted, you must submit a free application for admission and a respiratory therapy technology program application and supporting material by the application deadline to be considered for admission to the associate degree respiratory therapy program.

Admission to the college
Submit a free application for admission to COTC.
Official transcripts
Submit official high school transcript with graduation date or official GED transcript. High school seniors must send a current transcript during their senior year and a final transcript after graduation.
If applicable, submit official transcripts from all career centers, colleges and universities attended past and current with GPA. All foreign transcripts (high school and colleges) must be evaluated by a NACES Member.
Respiratory therapy technology information meeting
Attend a respiratory therapy technology information meeting (valid for 12 months).
Co-requisite and pre-requisite courses
Complete any required remedial coursework with a grade of “C” or higher based upon the multiple measures placement policy. Courses may include co-requisite English and co-requisite statistics.
Provide proof of completion with grade of “C” or higher of the following courses:
- A full unit of high school algebra or higher-level college equivalents
- A full unit of high school chemistry or Intro to Chemistry Principles (CHEM-020) or higher-level college equivalents
- A full unit of high school biology or higher-level college equivalents
Health selection exam
The HESI A2 exam can be taken at any COTC campus. The exam is only available in person.
Scores can be sent from any testing location* as long as they meet the following criteria:
- It must be administered in person. No remote exams will be accepted. HESI scores are valid for 12 months.
- The test must have exactly the same subjects our HESI A2 covers — no more, no less. That is:
- Reading comprehension
- Vocabulary and general knowledge
- Basic math skills
- Biology
- Chemistry
- The score transcript must be ordered from HESI and sent directly to cotcrecords@mail.cotc.edu to be verified.

Respiratory therapy technology program application
Submit the respiratory therapy technology program application. Application is available one month prior to each deadline by request from your assigned advisor or email cotcadvising@mail.cotc.edu.
Background check
FBI and BCI background checks are required upon notification (within one week) of admission into the program. Final admission is contingent upon a cleared background check.
CPR certification
CPR certification from an American Heart Association-approved training center is required for clinical rotations.
Medical screening
Complete drug screening, oral swab and TB skin test at Licking Memorial Occupational Health.
