As a College Credit Plus (CCP) student, how are textbooks and supplies paid for?

How and whether textbooks and supplies are paid for is dependent upon the type of CCP student.

  • Public school students who participate in CCP through an Ohio public college or university will have required textbook costs paid for by the high school. The college or university is responsible for the cost of required supplies.
  • Private school students must apply for funding to participate in CCP. If private school students receive funding to participate in CCP, then required textbooks will be paid for by the high school. Additional required supplies must be provided by the college or university.
  • Home school students must apply for funding to participate in CCP. Home school students must pay for their required textbooks and supplies even if they receive funding to participate in CCP.

Cost is not covered for recommended books and recommended supplies regardless of the type of CCP student. It is a student’s choice whether to pay out of pocket for recommended books and supplies.

There are FAQs regarding textbooks and supplies on the state of Ohio CCP website as well.

How do I know what textbooks and supplies are required for a class, and what is the difference between required and recommended textbooks and supplies?

Required

Recommended

Required textbooks and supplies are determined by each course professor on the course syllabus (not just the bookstore website).

Courses and professors at COTC may choose to have recommended textbooks and supplies on the syllabus (and those may or may not be on the college bookstore website) in addition to required books and supplies.

As a College Credit Plus student, how do I get textbooks and supplies for my courses?

We recommend students talk with their guidance counselor regarding textbooks for CCP classes to determine whether the school will provide books or whether students will be responsible for getting their books.

If your guidance counselor directs you to order your textbooks, students can view and rent/purchase books from the COTC bookstore operated by Barnes and Noble. A brief tutorial is available to help CCP students navigate the bookstore website and purchase books.

Students should talk with their CCP enrollment navigator regarding any required supplies. COTC will reimburse the cost of supplies listed as required on the course syllabus.

Please refer to this CCP textbook ordering guide for more information.

Can all books and supplies be purchased and/or rented through the bookstore?

Most books and supplies can be purchased through the COTC bookstore; however, there are some supplies that are not sold at the COTC bookstore:

  • Required information regarding scrubs, shoes or uniform items for a COTC healthcare course will be given to students upon registration of the course.
    • COTC will only reimburse for one complete uniform/scrub set and up to $50 for shoes.
  • Required uniform and shoes for EMS Basic – EMS 120: This information will be given to students based upon where they take the course.  Students can be reimbursed for one required uniform and up to $50 for one pair of shoes.
  • Required software for courses will be available on designated computers on each campus.

In order to request reimbursement, a legible, itemized receipt must be submitted to the CCP enrollment navigator via email at ccp@mail.cotc.edu.

Are there courses at COTC that have other requirements that are not books or supplies?

Yes, some courses at COTC have other requirements that must be met.
