State of Ohio Grants and Scholarships
The State of Ohio offers many grants and scholarships that directly lower your out-of-pocket education costs, including the Choose Ohio First Scholarship, Ohio Work Ready Grant and Talent Ready Grant, among others, available to students enrolled at COTC. State financial aid is awarded based on a number of factors including: areas of study, academic merit, financial need, military status and more.
Choose Ohio First Scholarship
Students applying to COTC’s nursing and allied health programs may apply to receive a $1,500 Choose Ohio First (COF) scholarship per semester, which is renewable until program completion. Scholarships are limited and awarded based on academic achievement. COF scholarships may be used in addition to other scholarships and grants to pay for tuition and fees.

Ohio Work Ready Grant
The Ohio Work Ready Grant gives monetary awards to Ohioans pursuing careers in critical fields like healthcare, engineering, information technology (IT) and more. Most students must demonstrate financial need to be eligible. However, those in COTC’s engineering technology, electrical engineering technology and electromechanical engineering technology programs can receive the grant regardless of financial need. File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to see if you’re eligible.
Grants may be used to pay for tuition, fees and other educational expenses. Learners can earn an award for a maximum of six semesters — the equivalent of three academic years. They can receive it for either part-time or full-time studies, and their yearly grant amount is based upon number of credits taken.
There is no special application for this grant program. Students are automatically considered if they enroll in an in-demand degree or certificate program at COTC and complete the FAFSA.
Talent Ready Grant
The Talent Ready Grant provides up to $2,000 to help eligible students cover tuition and fees for short-term certificate programs (less than 30 credit hours) that lead to in-demand careers. Funding is limited and nearly exhausted, so awards will be made on a first-come, first-served basis while funds remain available.
