  • HLT 140 – Phlebotomy
  • HTL 145 – Phlebotomy Lab
  • HLT 150 – Phlebotomy Clinical

More information can be found on the American Society for Clinical Pathology website.

If I only complete the classes needed to take the national licensure exam, do I also earn the Phlebotomy Certificate from COTC?

No. Students must complete the full Phlebotomy Certificate Plan of Study to earn a certificate from COTC.

What are the benefits of completing the Phlebotomy Certificate at COTC?

  • Students who complete the Phlebotomy Certificate at COTC are eligible to sit for a total of three certification exams and can become certified in multiple areas for increased marketability and employability in the healthcare field:
  • Students who pursue the Phlebotomy Certificate are eligible for financial aid.
    • Students who only complete the three courses to sit for the National Phlebotomy Association exam, are not eligible for financial aid (but may be eligible for the short-term certificate state grant).

Can I take classes online or face-to-face?

Students pursuing a healthcare certificate should expect to take classes face-to-face to experience hands-on learning. Medical Terminology and Nutrition classes may be offered online.

Can I pursue an associate degree after I complete the Phlebotomy certificate?

Students who complete a healthcare certificate are encouraged to keep going because they are well on their way to completing the Associate of Applied Science in Health Services Technology at COTC.

What type of financial assistance is available to help me pay for college?

The phlebotomy certificate is eligible for the Talent Ready Grant available to support students who have financial need, are enrolled in a short-term certificate that may be completed in less than one year (less than 30 credit hours), and leads to a certification or a workforce credential in an in-demand job or career. The grant is intended to assist in covering the cost of tuition and fees (up to $2000) and is a limited fund that will be awarded until funds are exhausted.
