Phlebotomy Certificate Available at COTC’s Knox Campus this Summer

News

Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) is offering a certificate in phlebotomy, which can be completed in as little as one or two semesters, through the Knox campus during the summer semester beginning May 11.

Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible for certification as job-ready phlebotomists through the American Society for Clinical Pathology.

Phlebotomists draw blood for tests, transfusions, research or blood donations. They primarily work in hospitals, ambulatory centers, clinics, medical and diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers and doctors’ offices. According to Ohio Labor Market Information, employment of phlebotomists is expected to grow 20.5% through 2026.

COTC will offer its traditional 12-week summer semester beginning on May 11. Due to COVID-19, all courses and student services continue to be delivered in a remote format indefinitely. All classroom and laboratory courses for the phlebotomy certificate will meet virtually on set days and times. Clinical hours will begin late June, pending site availability.

COTC will offer more than $1 million in scholarships to help new students, those transferring from another institution and continuing students with a special allocation specifically for displaced workers impacted by the pandemic. In some cases, students could receive enough funding to cover 100% of their tuition and have funds left to assist with living expenses. Scholarships are available for the 2020-2021 academic year, which begins with the opening of COTC’s summer semester. Learn more at go.cotc.edu/covidscholarship.
