The Digital Media Technology Certificate from COTC is right for YOU!

This certificate is focused specifically on the technology of digital media. It is an intensive, 21-credit hour program that exposes participants to a variety of media production areas, including hardware (e.g., digital cameras, scanners, recording); software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud titles); and professional concepts (e.g., print production, interactive & web technologies, social media).  Students can obtain this certificate in 2 or 3 semesters (including summer).

Students who complete the certificate plan of study will have gained the knowledge and skills to sit for the Adobe Certified Associates exam in any of several different areas (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver or Premier). Transferability

Digital Media Technology Certificate completers are encouraged to continue their education at COTC in one of the digital media design pathways — graphic design or web design. COTC graduates of digital media design technology who wish to continue on to a bachelor’s degree are eligible to transfer to several nearby four-year institutions such as Franklin University, DeVry University, Ohio Dominican University, Ohio Christian University and The Ohio State University.

Talent Ready Grant

The Talent Ready Grant is offered through a partnership with the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) to support students who have financial need, are enrolled in a short-term certificate that may be completed in less than one year (less than 30 credit hours), and leads to a certification or a workforce credential in an in-demand job or career. The grant is intended to assist in covering the cost of tuition and fees (up to $2000) and is a limited fund that will be awarded until funds are exhausted.

How quickly can I complete the digital media technology certificate?

Students can complete the Digital Media Technology certificate in as little as two semesters, though you can spread some classes out to the summer as well if you need a slightly lighter course load.

What classes do I need to take?

In order to earn this certificate, students must complete the following courses:

  • DMD-101: Digital Software Fundamentals
  • DMD-113: Introduction to eLife: Foundations of Digital Literacy
  • DMD-240: Video Production I
  • DMD-120: Web Design & Development I
  • DMD-208: Multimedia Production
  • DMD-104: Design Fundamentals
  • DMD-105: Photography I
  • DMD-121: Web Design & Development II

Can I take classes online or face-to-face?

Many, but not all DMD courses are offered in an online or hybrid delivery format. Check the course catalog for specific online offerings.

Can I pursue an associate degree after I complete the digital media technology certificate?

Students who complete the digital media technology certificate are encouraged to continue because they are well on their way to completing the digital media design technology associate degree

After I complete the Digital Media Technology (DMT) Certificate, will I be prepared to take the Adobe Certified Associates (ACA) exams? 

Students who successfully complete the DMT Certificate and have strong working knowledgeable of Adobe products such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Dreamweaver are typically ready to take (and pass) the ACA exams. Good working knowledge includes the ability to comfortably navigate the software, perform routine tasks, and answer conceptual or applied questions about how to use the Adobe products. Adobe recommends people have approximately 150 hours of instruction and hands-on experience.

What type of financial assistance is available to help me pay for college? 

COTC awards more than $1 million in scholarships to students each year.

Every student is encouraged to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for grants, scholarships and loans. 

Students who complete a FAFSA are automatically considered for some scholarships. Other scholarships require an application.

What type of projects or work do students do in digital media technology?

Throughout the program, students are exposed to “real world,” hands-on projects that help them develop a well-rounded skill set. For example, students in the web design and development courses will actually create functional websites for both fictional and real clients. We work with many different community partners who need assistance with digital projects. Students in Design Fundamentals will design logos, product packaging, environmental design and advertisements. Upper-level students in Graphic Design and the Digital Media Capstone create multi-faceted projects like a cookbook, interactive brochures and infographics. Students in Multimedia Production and Video create short films, music videos, commercials and immersive multimedia experiences!
