helping others and making a difference. This program prepares
qualified individuals for entry-level positions in a wide
variety of social work assistant and human services settings
serving individuals, families, groups and communities by

Students who want to pursue a bachelor’s degree in social
work and have an interest in case management, social work
and counseling can complete an Associate of Arts in
Social Work.
The number of citizens affected by substance use disorder
is in the millions, and Ohio is severely affected. The
addiction studies certificate program prepares
individuals to work in an entry-level position in many
community health programs. Coursework includes training
in how to assist individuals and families with a variety
of issues arising from addiction problems.
Students in the human services associate degree program
are automatically awarded an addiction studies
certificate upon completion of the Chemical Dependency II
elective course. This certificate option is available to
any COTC student from other disciplines that interact
with substance abuse clients or related addiction
issues.
Psychiatric technicians and aides care for people who
have mental illness and developmental disabilities.
Technicians typically provide therapeutic care and monitor
their patients’ conditions. Aides help patients in their
daily activities and ensure a safe, clean environment. They
are employed in hospitals, community mental health centers,
psychiatric clinics, social service agencies and geriatric
nursing homes.
The case management for the healthcare and gerontology
professional certificate is for students interested in
healthcare, human services (with emphasis in gerontology
or working with people who are aging) or a combination of
both.
Often nurses (licensed practical nurses and registered
nurses) will add to their education and pursue this
certificate to assist them with case management in
patient care settings.
