Central Ohio Technical College
Articulation Agreement Review Process:
In addition to providing access to current articulation agreements via the web, Central Ohio Technical College has initiated a web-assisted articulation agreement review process. This process addresses the review and updating of articulation agreements under the following two circumstances:
I. In years when there is no local Career Field Technical Competency review, and
II. In years when a local Career Field Technical Competency review is scheduled.
I. Articulation Agreement Review without Career Field Technical Competency Review
a. Central Ohio Technical College will review the current Career Field Technical Competency document and compare it with internal course changes, which occur on a yearly internal cycle. In addition, appropriate subject area experts, as well as administration, will take part in the review process.
b. By March 15, the college will publish updated articulation agreements that take into account the college programs’ internal course changes. An email announcement will be sent to the participating schools.
c. Schools will have until April 15, or the first business day thereafter, to provide feedback on the draft articulation agreement.
d. Draft articulation agreements will become official after April 15, or the first business day thereafter, unless school responses, during the comment period, show a need for further conversation. School administrators or lead teachers who have questions or comments about draft agreements are encouraged to contact the appropriate academic administrator at Central Ohio Technical College to initiate further discussion about the draft. The academic administrator will consult with appropriate faculty members.
e. On April 16, or on the first business day thereafter, draft designations on posted articulation agreements will be removed, and the graduation class covered by the agreement, and the expiration date of the agreement, will be added to the posted document.
f. Posted documents will be removed from the website on their expiration date.
II. Articulation Agreement Review with Career Field Technical Competency Review
a. The consortium will coordinate the review and update activities at the consortium level, convening relevant school and college faculty and administration. All will be given (or directed to the State or College website for) the current State Career Field Technical Competency and College Syllabi.
b. At the program review meeting, Central Ohio Technical College administrators/faculty and Secondary partners will review the State curriculum, discuss options for delivery, and develop a draft list of courses for articulation credit for relevant college majors.
c. Within 30 days of the review meeting, Central Ohio Technical College will post the draft articulation agreement on its website. An email announcement will be sent to the participating schools.
d. Schools will have 30 days to provide feedback on the draft articulation agreement.
e. Newly posted articulation agreements will become official 31 days after the original posting unless school responses show a need for further conversation.
f. When draft agreements become official (on the 31st day of posting), “draft” designations will be removed, and the graduating class covered by the agreement, and the expiration date of the agreement, will be added to the posted document. New courses will go into effect the following school year. If any other changes need to be made secondary schools must contact college partners and discuss directly with college.
Schools that can document that their Tech Prep programs should be eligible for articulated credit beyond the published course list may engage in negotiations with the relevant Central Ohio Technical College department via contacting the Transitions Coordinator at 740.366.9596. These negotiations will involve appropriate college faculty and academic administrators. If the department agrees, a school-specific memorandum of understanding will make the additional credits available for articulation. Requests with documentation must be received prior to finalization of draft agreements. Posted agreements apply only to the high school graduating class identified on the agreement. Posted agreements will be maintained on the college’s website until their noted expiration date.
III. Dual Enrollment
Students enrolled through the Heart of Ohio Tech Prep Consortium Programs can receive articulation credit through dual enrollment. All students will complete a COTC Tech Prep application, submit a letter of recommendation and high school transcript, and complete the COMPASS Assessment. Each spring, students will be given the opportunity to enroll in and pay for a one credit hour course as agreed upon by COTC and the secondary schools. Once the student completes the dual enrollment requirements, the articulation credit will be applied to a COTC official transcript upon receipt and review of the Tech Prep grades.
