Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN)

Become a Licensed Practical Nurse at COTC

Licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses (known as LPNs or LVNs, depending on the state in which they work) provide basic medical care. They work under the direction of registered nurses and doctors. LPN’s are responsible for administering basic nursing care and monitoring a patient’s health. Graduates are awarded a Certificate Degree in Practical Nursing and are eligible to apply to take the licensing exam (NCLEX-PN) to become Licensed Practical Nurses.

Some benefits of the COTC program are:

• The program offers a one-year study plan leading to a Practical Nursing Certificate.

• The curriculum provides a balance of general education and nursing courses and has been developed to provide a strong foundation for academic progression in nursing.

• Carefully planned clinical laboratory experiences are an integral part of all nursing courses and encompass caring for persons in various age groups who need nursing care for a variety of reasons.

Nursing is a dynamic profession, one with multiple opportunities in a variety of health care settings. The licensed practical nurse may choose to work in long-term care and assisted-living facilities, industrial settings, medical offices, private homes or acute care hospitals. The Bureau of Labor Statistics states that employment of licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses is expected to grow 22 percent from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average for all occupations.

Dedicated to excellence in nursing education, the National League for Nursing is the preferred membership organization for nurse faculty and leaders in nursing education.
