It is my privilege to serve as President of Central Ohio
Technical College (COTC), an institution established by the community
more than 35 years ago to meet the technical education and training
needs of central Ohio. As one of the fastest growing colleges in the
state, COTC has recently extended programming, services and its
commitment to accessible education by establishing full-service campuses
in the communities of Newark, Coshocton, Knox County and Pataskala. COTC
is in its 10th year of record enrollment growth exceeding
3,000 the past three years and attracting students from 39 Ohio
counties, 12 states and many foreign countries.
COTC is wonderfully positioned to prepare today’s college
students as the technology-driven workforce looks to associate degree
graduates to propel business and industry toward the future. By 2012,
Ohio’s economy is projected to create more than 560,000 new jobs, 60
percent of which will be filled by individuals with at least some
college education. Growing faster than any other job category, at a rate
of 21.7 percent are occupations that will require an associate degree.
COTC has a direct linkage between programming and
workforce needs the result of which benefits graduates and employers: 90
percent of COTC graduates are employed in their field of study within
six months of graduating and report average starting salaries between
$37,000 and $39,999. We are proud to have infused more than 8,000 COTC
graduates into the workforce.
The institution’s academic strengths combined with the
flexibility and innovation to respond to workforce needs ensures its
integral place in the economic development of the community, region and
state and as a bridge to the future for thousands of students. We
continue to be committed to the mission upon which the institution was
founded, we remain vigilant about access and quality and have a bold
vision to become the #1 technical college in Ohio.
