Do IEPs or 504 plans transfer to COTC?

The IEP or 504 accommodations a student has in high school do not automatically transfer to college. Accommodations can often still be provided for high school students taking college courses through CCP, but are assessed case by case by the Office of Student Life Disability Services. We highly recommend students on an IEP or 504 connect with our Disability Services staff. Please visit our Disability Services page for more information.

What academic services are available to help CCP students?

CCP students can access free services to help them academically, including tutoring and testing. Students can also connect with student success coaches to improve study skills, notetaking, time management and more. Visit our Student Success Center for more information.

How can I view what classes are offered at COTC?

Review our online course catalog to see what classes are offered and when each semester.

How do I know when COTC semesters are in session?

COTC provides an academic calendar that outlines important dates and deadlines. College calendars and high school calendars do not always align. It’s best to review both the COTC calendar and the high school calendar.

What is the Family Educational Rights And Privacy Act (FERPA)?

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act FERPA) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. When high school students complete a COTC application for CCP, there is a statement that indicates we, COTC, are permitted to share information with you, as the CCP student, as well as share information with your high school. If you want your parent/guardian to also have access to your COTC information you as the CCP student, must complete the COTC confidential information release form.

Can CCP students work on a COTC campus?

High school students taking College Credit Plus (CCP) with COTC can apply for a job to work at one of COTC’s four campus locations. High school students who want to work on a COTC campus must have a work permit or be 18 years of age. CCP students can only apply for jobs listed as “student wages.” View our open student employment opportunities.

Where can I get more information?

For more information about College Credit Plus at a state level, visit the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.

What should I be aware of/consider if my child wants to take CCP classes?

  • Make sure your child has time for the rigor of college course work especially alongside any extracurricular activities.
  • If your student wishes to take classes on a COTC campus, they will be in a diverse environment and college courses may have “mature subject matter” as defined in Ohio Revised Code 3365.035.
  • Unless the student tells their professor they are a CCP student, professors are not provided that information.
  • Parents or guardians do not have automatic access to their student’s college information, like grades, without their student’s permission. COTC students complete an Information Release Form and can give permission for others to have access.
  • Grades your student earns will appear on both their high school and COTC college transcript.
  • If a student fails a CCP class or withdraws after the official census date (14 calendar days after the class starts), the school district can ask for the cost of tuition and textbooks to be repaid by the student/parent.
