Advising Office
What do Academic Advisors do?
- Academic advisors are caring individuals with valuable information! They are full time professional advisors in partnership with students who are striving toward a degree or an educational goal.
- Advisors have access to placement testing results and the schedule of classes. They will help you to build an appropriate first quarter schedule. They will also help you to prepare for your first day in a college class.
- Advisors can help you explore educational and career opportunities, set appropriate goals and devise strategies for accomplishing those goals.
- Advisors can help you understand the requirements of the OSU majors.
- They can give you information that will help you monitor your progress toward a degree.
- In addition, advisors can provide a listening ear, share in your achievements and disappointments, answer questions, and direct you to other appropriate services. Advisors work closely with the University faculty and administration.
How will I meet and get to know my advisor?
- You will first meet advisors serving in various roles at your orientation, testing and scheduling. The advising staff is an integral part of the whole process of moving you from applicant to student.
- You will be assigned to an advisor according to the major you have chosen. Your advisor will also be teaching in the Undergrad Student Academic Services 100 (USAS 100). This is a great opportunity to begin a working relationship with the advising staff.
- Academic advisors are available by appointment throughout the calendar year. They care about your success!
