Medical Coding

Short-Term Certificate
One-Year Certificate

Overview

COTC offers two certificate options in medical coding.

The Medical Coding Short-Term Certificate is just six classes and is the quickest way to begin a career in medical coding.

The Medical Coding One-Year Certificate can be completed in one calendar year (three semesters) and continues a student’s education to expand upon job opportunities.

After completion of one or both medical coding certificates, students can sit for the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam through the American Academy of Professional Coders.

Both of the medical coding certificates prepare students for a variety of employment opportunities:

  • Certified Medical Biller and Coder
  • Health Information Technician
  • Medical Records Technician
  • Medical Secretary
  • Medical Office Administrator
  • Quality Improvement Analyst
  • Insurance Claims Analyst

Students who complete either or both of the medical coding certificates are well on their way to completing the Associate of Applied Science in Medical Coding. The more training and education a student completes, the more career advancement opportunities there are in medical coding.
