ECD Future Students - Admission, Promotion, Readmission and Completion of the ProgramProgram Admission Initial applications to the college are processed by the Admission’s Office of COTC. Once students are ready to begin skill demonstration with young children (before enrollment in 5615 Managing Children In-Groups, a meeting is held with the ECD Program Director to complete the process for acceptance in the ECD Program. For more information refer to Student Practicum File. The program faculty in consultation with the Academic Director, Dean of Curriculum and Design and Dean of Faculty develops the criteria for admission. Promotion Through the Program Students are retained in the program according to college and program procedures. Students receiving a grade of C- (73% or below) in any ECD course will meet with a program faculty or advisor for academic counseling. To advance within the ECD program, the student must earn a C (2.00) or better in all ECD courses that assign a letter grade, 5600- 5800. Failure to achieve a grade of C (2.00) or better in any of the above mentioned courses will require the student to repeat the course and receive a grade of C (2.00) or better before continuation to a course requiring the course as a prerequisite. Beginning with 2005-2006 plan of study, in order to be eligible for student teaching and the Ohio Department of Education Prekindergarten Associate License a “B” (3.00) or better is required in all co-requisite field /methods courses, 5641/5649; 5615; 5631/5639; 5621/5638; 5667. A student may repeat the failed course a maximum of two (2) times. The student may use the withdrawal process to withdraw from a course a maximum of two times. Program Readmission Students who discontinue in the ECD program may reenter on a space available basis provided they are in good academic standing and meet college and program admissions requirements. If requesting readmission to a practicum course you must contact the ECD Program Director one month before the first day of class. This must be done in writing. If readmitting after one or more years of absence, continuation in practicum courses will require updating the Student Practicum File. Program Completion The College Registrar is responsible for all student records and confirms that each student has met all the requirements for graduation. Upon successful completion of all the requirements, COTC awards the Associate of Applied Science degree to the graduates of the Early Childhood Development Program. |
