Student ID

All COTC students are encouraged to get their free student ID. COTC student ID cards are issued by The Ohio State University BuckID system.

New students must be registered for classes before getting a COTC student ID. Students need to show a photo ID, provide a little information, and have a photo taken to get their COTC student ID. Students can go to the Department of Public Safety on the Newark campus in the Warner Center, #105, to get their COTC student ID, or students can have their photo taken at one of the COTC extended campuses: Coshocton, Knox or Pataskala, and get their student ID a few days later after the ID is created in Newark by Public Safety and sent to the extended campus for student pick-up.  

Students need a COTC student ID because it is used for many things. A student ID is needed to identify yourself as a COTC student when meeting and communicating with various departments on campus including the Office of Student Financial Aid. A student ID is needed to rent or purchase books in the bookstore and to use library resources.  

Money can be loaded on to a student ID and be used to purchase food and drinks in the Table of Contents cafeteria and coffee spots on the Newark campus. Some campus vending will also accept your student ID as payment as long as there is money on your student ID. Additionally, students are charged for printing services on campus which can be paid via your student ID.  

To load money onto your student ID, please visit www.buckid.osu.edu​ and click on “Make a Deposit.” Funds may also be added to your COTC student ID over the phone by calling The Ohio State University ID Card Office at 614.292.0400. You must know your COTC ID card number and COTC email address.

A replacement student ID costs $20.00, and may be purchased online. Please keep your COTC student ID in a safe place.

Parking and Permits

COTC campuses offer all students free parking. Student and visitor parking is available in any white-lined space on all COTC campuses. On the Newark campus, staff and faculty park in yellow-lined spaces. All COTC students, staff and faculty are encouraged to get a parking pass by providing the make, model and license plate number for their vehicle. Staff and faculty parking in yellow-lined spaces are required to display a parking pass. Students who park in yellow-lined spaces designated for staff and faculty are subject to a parking fine. Additionally, anyone parking in a handicap space must have handicap parking permissions displayed clearly; vehicles illegally parked in handicap spaces are also subject to fines. 

Students on any COTC campus can have a security officer escort them to their vehicle parked on campus at any time. Students on the Newark campus should call the Department of Public Safety at 740.366.9237. Students on an extended campus: Coshocton, Knox or Pataskala* can go to the Gateway office for assistance and be connected with the on-site building supervisor and security officer. 

*the Pataskala City Hall Annex building while the Pataskala campus is being renovated during the 2020-2021 academic year.

FBI/BCI Background  and Fingerprinting Services

These services are available to COTC students (or perspective COTC students applying for specific academic programs). Background checks cost $25 for BCI and $35 for FBI applicants. Individuals requesting these services must pay those costs online, then report to the Public Safety office (Warner Center #105) ​with the receipt and a valid driver's license or state ID. Background checks are conducted at any time between 7:30 a.m and 10 p.m. daily (including weekends) as long as the student has paid the required fees, and you must have your receipt. Safety Escort Service

The Campus Safety Escort Service is for students, faculty or staff feeling unsafe walking alone. A campus security officer will accompany you and ensure that you are protected to your destination on campus. Arrangements can be made in advance or on the spot. Call 740.366.9237. The service is provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
In order for your escort to easily identify you and document our activity, we respectfully request that you provide our dispatcher with the following information when you call:
  • First and last name, current location, and phone number
  • Desired destination
  • Brief personal description for easy identification
  • Desired pick-up time
All Public Safety officers wear uniform shirts with badges and carry identification. They are worn at all times so that you can easily identify our staff. Each escort will also carry a two-way UHF radio to maintain contact with law enforcement dispatchers and other important agencies.


Lockers may be rented from Recreation Sports (Adena Hall) during the year for individuals to secure their belongings. Other lockers, located at various places on campus, are available through the Center for Student Success with priority is given to disabled students.
