Message from the President

Company's coming!

All faculty and staff members are encouraged to be on campus Monday, May 12 through Wednesday, May 14, 2008, to welcome the team that will evaluate Central Ohio Technical College for reaccreditation.  Six NCA reviewers from The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association (NCA) of Colleges and Schools will visit the college to interview faculty, staff, students and community members and look for evidence that COTC meets the association’s five criteria for reaccreditation.

In preparation for May's site visit, departments also should make sure their Web site links are working and that references to personnel are current. The site team will follow a schedule, so faculty and staff members will know where and when they need to be available.  The HLC reviews an institution in its entirety.  Each office and each function will be examined for effectiveness, so it is important for all employees to be available during the visit. Preparation for the site visit should include reviewing the Self-Study Report at http://www.cotc.edu/cotc/SelfStudy/default.asp.

"Securing the Future," our theme for the reaccreditation process, sets the tone for the progress and accomplishments documented in our Self-Study Report.  The College's recent history, as documented in the Report, highlights its success in translating academic aspirations into academic excellence, thus providing students, faculty, and community a more promising, secure future.   In addition, I believe that your collective efforts are effectively securing the future of our college.  Through your dedication, commitment to quality and innovation, and perseverance, COTC is a distinct, connected, and learning-focused institution that is well positioned to take advantage of identified opportunities and prepared to address challenges to move successfully forward in continuing to fulfill our mission.  As promised, we’ve already begun using the information collected in the Report as a foundation for the development of our next strategic plan.

I'd like to thank every member of the COTC community for their contributions to the Self-Study Report and the upcoming visit. Many of you have spent hours in meetings to provide valuable information for the Report. Some of you have been helpful to the HLC Steering Committee in gathering important documents for the Report and/or the resource room. Others are working hard to ensure that our facilities sparkle during the visit.  I am proud of our work together in preparation for this visit.

I'd like to extend special thanks to the HLC Steering Committee and coordinator, Jackie Parrill.  Members of the Committee have worked countless hours above and beyond their regular duties to produce a quality Self-Study Report and to prepare documents, facilities, staff and other constituents for the visit in May.  Their exceptional leadership, dedication to the process, and commitment to quality will undoubtedly lead to our successful reaccreditation.

As we finalize preparations for our "company" on May 12 - 14, 2008, I encourage you to mark your calendars now and plan to attend the appropriate sessions and share your insights with the site visitors.

Sincerely,

Bonnie L. Coe, Ph.D.
President
