Message from the President
2-12-2007
Now that the winter 2007 quarter is fully
underway, I’d like to take a few minutes of your time to update you on
the reaccreditation and Self-Study process, reflecting back on the
progress that has already been made and looking forward towards what’s
to come.
It is hard for me to believe that I
announced the beginning of the Self-Study process and appointed the
Steering Committee over a year ago! Since that time, extensive
work has been undertaken by all of the committees in collecting
evidence to show the college complies with the five criteria
identified by the Higher Learning Commission and identifying areas
in which we can focus our continuous improvement efforts.
The work of the committees will
culminate in the preparation of written reports outlining their
findings. Over the next few months, these reports will be
compiled into the first draft of the Self-Study report. In
late summer/early fall, once the Steering Committee and the
principal subcommittees have assembled the report into our Final
Review Manuscript, it will be sent out to the college community for
feedback and edits. We anticipate the report will be finalized
and produced early in December 2007.
The Self-Study report will be
mailed to the peer reviewers in late Winter 2008 and the team will
be visiting the College on May 12 – 14, 2008.
After the visit, I want to
assure you that the work of our committees will not be put on a
shelf and forgotten until the next HLC visit. As many of you
know, I have been considering changes to optimize our organizational
structure including strengthening our strategic planning efforts.
The strengths, opportunities, and challenges identified in the
report will serve as the foundation for our strategic planning
efforts. As you’ll remember, our Strategic Action Plan that I
developed upon my arrival in 2001 will expire in 2008.
Therefore, the timing, by design, is excellent to begin developing a
new 5-year strategic plan for the college.
Your dedication and support of
the reaccreditation and Self-Study process are greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Bonnie L. Coe, Ph.D.
