Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing Technology Program Learning Outcomes

Statement of Purpose

The purpose of the Nursing Technology program is to provide health education programs for emerging and practicing healthcare providers, accomplished through the values of integrity, quality, leadership, affordability and innovation.

Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of the ADN Program, the student will:

1.    Promote achievement of client outcomes by providing and directing nursing care that enhances the care delivery setting in order to protect clients, family/significant others and other health care personnel.

1.1. Management of Care: Provide and direct nursing care that enhances the care delivery setting to protect clients, family/significant others and health care personnel.

1.2. Safety and Infection Control: Protect clients, family/significant others and health care personnel from health and environmental hazards.

HEALTH PROMOTION AND MAINTENANCE

2.    Provide and direct nursing care of the client and family/significant other that incorporates knowledge of expected growth and development principles; prevention and/or early detection of health problems; and strategies to achieve optimal health.

PSYCHOSOCIAL INTEGRITY

3.    Provide and direct nursing care that promotes and supports the emotional, mental and social well-being of the client and family/significant others experiencing stressful events, as well as clients with acute or chronic mental illness.

PHYSIOLOGICAL INTEGRITY

4.    Promote physical health and wellness by providing care and comfort, reducing risk potential and managing health alterations.

4.1. Basic Care and Comfort: Provide comfort to clients and assist in the performance of their activities of daily living.

4.2. Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies: Provide care related to the administration of medications and parenteral therapies.

4.3. Reduction of Risk Potential: Reduce the potential for clients to develop complications or health problems related to treatments, procedures or existing conditions.

4.4. Physiological Adaptation: Manage and provide care for clients with acute, chronic or life-threatening physical health conditions.

PROFESSIONALISM

5.    Model professional nursing behaviors.

5.1. Practice within established ethical guidelines

5.2. Apply the principles of accountability to their practice .

5.3. Initiate own learning.

5.4. Evaluate own strengths and areas needing improvement.

5.5. Take action to enhance learning.

5.6. Articulate the importance of professional growth through lifelong learning activities

6.    Practice within the profession's ethical and legal framework in providing nursing care for clients throughout the life span.

7.    Value the individual members of the nursing profession for their unique contributions to the discipline of nursing

8.    Pass the NCLEX-RN successfully.
