Statement of Purpose |

The purpose of the
Forensic Science Technology program is to serve the unique needs of
students who desire a quality education in the field of forensic
science. Upon completion of this two-year degree program, students
are well-prepared to transfer to a four-year college or university
to continue their education towards a desired baccalaureate or
higher degree in forensic science, pre-law, criminal justice,
mortuary science, a medical field, or general sciences. Forensic
Science graduates can also enter a police academy to prepare for a
career in law enforcement. |

At the completion of
the Forensic Science Technology plan of study the student will be
able to: |

Demonstrate
application of the law of search and seizure and evidentiary rules. |
|
2. |
Employ scientific
crime detection techniques for collecting and categorizing crime
scene data. |
|
3. |
Document evidence
and results of the crime appropriately. |
|
4. |
Demonstrate the
ability to conduct interviews and interrogations, develop and
investigative plans, follow up investigative leads, and document
their findings. |

5. |
Demonstrate skill in
the area of laboratory instrumentation and analysis.

6. |
Explain the
pharmacology and detection of alcohol and major drugs of abuse. |
|
7. |
Demonstrate broad
knowledge of general science though the study of chemistry, math and
biology. |
|
8. |
Demonstrate and
document practical application of their interpersonal relationship
skills. |
|
9. |
Demonstrate
problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently
and in groups that will correlate to the challenges within their
field of study. |
