Program Learning Outcomes

Statement of Purpose

 

The purpose of the Forensic Science Technology program is to serve the unique needs of students who desire a quality education in the field of forensic science. Upon completion of this two-year degree program, students are well-prepared to transfer to a four-year college or university to continue their education towards a desired baccalaureate or higher degree in forensic science, pre-law, criminal justice, mortuary science, a medical field, or general sciences. Forensic Science graduates can also enter a police academy to prepare for a career in law enforcement.

 

Learning Outcomes

 

At the completion of the Forensic Science Technology plan of study the student will be able to:

 

1.

Demonstrate application of the law of search and seizure and evidentiary rules.

2.

Employ scientific crime detection techniques for collecting and categorizing crime scene data.

3.

Document evidence and results of the crime appropriately.

4.

Demonstrate the ability to conduct interviews and interrogations, develop and investigative plans, follow up investigative leads, and document their findings.

5.

Demonstrate skill in the area of laboratory instrumentation and analysis.

6.

Explain the pharmacology and detection of alcohol and major drugs of abuse.

7.

Demonstrate broad knowledge of general science though the study of chemistry, math and biology. 

8.

Demonstrate and document practical application of their interpersonal relationship skills.

9.

Demonstrate problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and in groups that will correlate to the challenges within their field of study.
