Electrical Trades Technology***
Program Learning Outcomes

Statement of Purpose

 

The purpose of the Electrical Trades Technology program is to prepare highly skilled, professionally trained, academically credentialed electricians. The program was developed in direct response to a request for an associate degree program by representatives of the Newark Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Trust Fund (NEJATTF). The NEJATTF is responsible for meeting the training needs of members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W.) Local 1105 Chapter.

 

Learning Outcomes

 

Upon successful completion of the Electrical Trades Technology program, graduates will be able to:

 

1.

Obtain their “Journeyman Inside Wireman”  classification.

2.

Understand and be proficient at meeting the standards set forth by the National Electric Code (NEC).

3.

Perform complete electrical installations, including; residential, commercial, and large industrial installations.

4.

Perform accurate code calculations, including; branch circuit calculations and apparent load calculations.

5.

Perform accurate NEC installations, including; proper conductor sizing based on ampere load calculations, and proper sizing of electrical raceways based upon ambient temperatures.

6.

Design and install life safety, security, and fire alarm systems.

7.

Perform motor control operations, including; manufacturing and assembly line stations, conveyors, and emergency stops.

8.

Perform complete process control operations, including; programming and installing program logic controllers (PLC’s), and installing all related inputs, outputs, monitors and switches.
