Alumni Recruitment Opportunities

On Campus Events:

Discovery Days- This is an event for high school students (mostly juniors and seniors) where they are invited to campus to spend half the day finding out about COTC admissions, financial aid, meet with faculty members and participate in lab activities, as well as tour the campus. Alumni members could help participate in the event set-up the day of the event, mingle with students/parents to talk about their experience at COTC and be included in the lab activity of their specific program.

Alumni needed: 1-10 (depending upon technology)

Time needed: 1 hour if only participating in faculty/lab breakout session, could also help with tours, check-in and other staffing needs-full event is 3.5 hours. Generally, these are 3 times per year.

College Tech Prep junior visits- This event is very similar to Discovery days in terms of what high school students do on campus. It is specific to students enrolled in College Tech Prep programs at their high school. They receive information as to how to enroll in tech prep through COTC and well as tour the campus, meet COTC faculty/staff/students and have hands-on lab experience. Alumni participation options could be the same as for Discovery Days.

Ready-Set-Go- This event is specific to graduating high school Tech Prep students who were enrolled in COTC’s College Tech Prep program. The purpose of the event is to encourage and help students with the process of enrolling in COTC after high school graduation. Again this event is set up like both the College Tech Prep junior visit as well as Discovery Days. Alumni participation options would be the same.

Early Bird Orientation- This orientation is for graduating high school seniors that have already applied and plan on enrolling at COTC. It is basically to welcome them to campus and help them to register for courses, find out about COTC student services, financial aid, what to expect as a college student, and meet other new graduating seniors that are enrolling. For this event alumni volunteers could help with activities during the event, help with the campus tours (which is a great time to talk to students/parents about your experience at COTC), and possibly speak to the group as a whole to discuss your experience and what you are now doing in the field and how COTC helped you to get to where you are today.

AutoCAD Workshops- This event is for prospects that are interested in Drafting and Design or just interested in AutoCAD. This is a great opportunity to visit the campus and meet with the faculty members of the program, and most importantly get hands-on experience with AutoCAD. It would be most preferred if alumni participants in this event would be alumni who have AutoCAD experience and a graduate of one of our Engineering programs.

Health Career Expo- This event is open to the public for anyone interested in finding out information about careers in the health care field. Information tables from each health care program are set up so that guests can gather information about each health care field and speak to a representative from each area. During this time campus tours are available and the guests are invited into the labs to get more program specific information, have any questions answered about the college and participate in a lab activity. Alumni volunteers would have the opportunity to participate in presenting the lab activity and talk to guests about their experience in the field during the information session. In order for alumni to participate in the information session or with the lab activity they must be a graduate from a COTC Nursing or Allied Health program.

Off Campus Events: (Call the Gateway to ask for the Admissions Representative in charge of these events. 740-366-9160)

General high school visits- These are high school visits where Admissions Representatives go to high schools in their given territory to present general information about COTC to students that have expressed interest. Visits could involve meeting with a small group of students, speaking to a specific class (ex: career exploration/senior seminar), or speak to a large group of students.

High school classroom visits- These are high school visits where Admissions Representatives are invited into a specific classroom to present information based on the high school’s request. This could be program specific information or just talking about options after high school and the importance of continuing education.

College fairs- This is where many colleges are invited to participate in a group effort to provide information to a large group. These fairs could be specific to high school students but may be open to the public as well. Larger businesses will sometimes invite college representatives in to provide information to their employees.

County fairs- The College sets up a table display at the fairs to provide information to those interested in the college as well as making a presence in the community. The table is “manned” by a college representative during the course of the fair. This is a fun way for alumni volunteers to get involved in promoting COTC in general as well as promoting the Alumni program.
