NEWARK, Ohio, August 28, 2019 – If you're a quick thinker, good with details and would love to work in the healthcare industry in a rapidly growing and well-paying field, Erica Hittle, MSN, CRNA, has just the career for you. Hittle is the program director for anesthesia technology, a highly anticipated new associate degree starting in January 2020 at Central Ohio Technical College (COTC). The groundbreaking program will offer the first anesthesia technology associate degree in the state.
Anesthesia technologists play a critical role in providing patient care. Working under the direction of an anesthesia care team, the anesthesia technologist is proficient in the acquisition, preparation and application of various types of equipment required for the delivery of anesthesia care."COTC is leading the way with this degree program," said Hittle. "This is the beginning of a paradigm shift in training for this role, and I'm so proud to be a part of this new program here at COTC."
Hittle understands the technical and educational requirements of the role well. She's currently the lead CRNA (certified registered nurse anesthetist) at Genesis Healthcare in Zanesville. She's worked as a CRNA for eight years.
"Our regional healthcare provider partners have indicated a strong need for this program," said Sandra Walker, EJD, COTC dean for technical studies. "We are very excited that a professional with Erica's years of experience in the field will lead this new program."
Hittle earned a bachelor's degree in nursing science from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Science in Nursing-Nurse Anesthetist from Case Western Reserve University.
