Registration Open for Middle School Manufacturing Camp in Coshocton

NEWARK, Ohio, June 5, 2017 — The Coshocton campus of Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) is one of the sites for Sen. Sherrod Brown's Summer Manufacturing Institute. The day camp will be held from June 19 to 23 in Montgomery Hall, 200 N. Whitewoman St., for students entering sixth, seventh and eighth grades.

The goal of the camp is to introduce students to manufacturing careers using a curriculum based on hands-on activities and direct interactions with local manufacturers. During the week-long camp, students will tour American Electric Power (AEP), Annin Flagmakers, Jones Metal, McWane Ductile, Schlabaugh Manufacturing and Organic Technologies. Lunch and light snacks are provided each day; family and friends of the student are invited to participate in lunch on Friday.

Registration forms are available at COTC's Coshocton campus, Coshocton Port Authority (106 S. Fourth St.) and Coshocton County Job and Family Services (725 Pine St.). Brown, COTC, Coshocton Port Authority and Ohio Means Jobs.

COTC offers an associate degree in manufacturing engineering technology. Students learn to read and make technical drawings, operate manual lathes and mills, and progress to computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines. The evolution of manufacturing has created a high-tech industry with a wide range of opportunities for technically-trained workers. According to data from the Ohio Education Research Center, the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, 92% of COTC's manufacturing and civil engineering technology graduates are employed within nine months of graduation.
