NEWARK, Ohio, June 11, 2019 – Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) will expand its healthcare education offerings by adding a new associate degree in the growing allied health field of anesthesia technology beginning in January 2020. It will be the first associate degree anesthesia technology program in the state.
"We're consistently seeing a very high demand in Ohio for anesthesia technologists," said Sandra Walker, EJD, COTC dean for health sciences. "Our regional healthcare provider partners have indicated a strong need for this program and COTC is very excited to respond directly to the workforce needs in central Ohio by offering this exciting new degree."

As a growing allied health profession, the anesthesia technology profession specifically focuses on fundamental and advanced clinical procedures which assist the anesthesia provider in the safe and efficient care of patient's receiving anesthesia. Working under the direction of an anesthesia care team, the anesthesia technologist is a vital member of the team as they are proficient in the acquisition, preparation and application of various types of equipment required for the delivery of anesthesia care. COTC's multiple clinical rotations ensure that students receive diverse real-world experiences.
Graduates of the anesthesia technology program receive the Associate of Applied Science and can immediately find work in a variety of clinical settings, including:
- hospital operating rooms
- labor and delivery units
- intensive care units
- emergency rooms
- outpatient procedure suites
- ambulatory surgery centers
- interventional and diagnostic radiology

Selection to the anesthesia technolgy program will be made annually through a competitive process. In addition to the general COTC admission application, prospective students must complete an anesthesia technology application form no later than October 1.
