NEWARK, Ohio, Mar. 5, 2018 — Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) and The Ohio State University at Newark Testing Center has achieved certification through the National College Testing Association (NCTA). NCTA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of professionalism and quality in the administration of testing services and programs.
"Being certified means that we are adhering to the best practices in our industry, we gain recognition of our hard work and that we put in place processes for continual evaluation and improvement," said Testing Center Coordinator Heidi Hartley.
Hartley completed the process twice in order to receive certification for both COTC and Ohio State Newark. The process required detailed documentation and evidence of processes and procedures and forced the staff to analyze them and improve where necessary. It took Hartley and staff member Christine Sanders almost one year to complete all the requirements. COTC and Ohio State Newark are the 10th and 11th colleges in the state of Ohio to receive certification. In order to maintain certified status, the Testing Center must complete the renewal process every five years.
"It really forced us to look into how we operate and why we do specific things. The process helped us to make necessary improvements and ensure that we are keeping up with the needs of our students," Hartley said.
The Testing Center provides accessible, secure and confidential testing services to both students and community members in an optimal testing environment. Make-up and accommodated tests for students can be taken in the center. In addition, placement testing, Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), PearsonVue, distance educations exams and College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests can be taken in the facility.
