COLLEGE ASPIRE summer workshops for community youth offer hands-on, technology-based learning on a college campus. Available to youth ages 10-18, these FREE WORKSHOPS are offered June 11 – 15, and are available at all four Central Ohio Technical College (COTC)  campuses: Newark, Coshocton, Knox & Pataskala!

 

Students – you choose the workshops that interest YOU most! And for the convenience of you and your parent or guardian, workshops take place daily (Monday-Friday, from either 9 a.m. to noon, or  1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Plus, one student in each workshop will be selected as the Shooting Star and will be awarded a $1,000.00 scholarship to apply toward your future education at Central Ohio Technical College! The Shooting Star is one who demonstrates a passion for learning, an eagerness to engage in the subject matter, and enthusiasm for furthering his or her education. (NOTE: In order to receive this institutional scholarship, students must enroll at least six credit hours per semester at COTC.)

 

And that’s not all! Students and their families are invited to attend the CollegeASPIRE Showcase on Saturday, June 16, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the John Gilbert Reese Center on the Newark campus of COTC. This is an exciting event you don’t want to miss!

 

Free Transporation is also available within 10 miles of workshops located at the Knox, Coshocton and Pataskala c ampuses. (NOTE: Participants using the transportation option will be contacted by a staff member the week prior to the beginning of workshops alerting you of pick-up and drop-off times and locations.)

 

Registration begins April 1. Workshops fill fast. Applications are due by May 25, 2018.

Brace Yourself and Build Up!

Newark Campus | Ages 15-18 | 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Students will explore the engineering behind building and construction using fun software and everyday materials to design and test bridges. A ”bridge masher” showdown will conclude the week.

HortiTECHture

Knox Campus | Ages 10-14, 9:00 a.m. - noon |  Ages 15-18, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Students will combine hands-on environmental techniques and green architecture concepts with computer comp onents to build indoor self-watering living walls.

Now We're Cooking

Newark Campus | Ages 10-14, 9:00 a.m. - noon |  Ages 15-18, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Participants will experience life as a chef in COTC's catering kitchen in this hands-on, creative-cooking workshop!  
​​Embrace Your Selfie!

Coshocton Campus | Ages 15-18 | 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Students will embrace their entrepreneurial spirit through the creation of a venture plan that showcases their skills, strengths and self-awareness.

Frozen Motion

Newark Campus | Ages 10-14, 9:00 a.m. - noon | Ages 15-18, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Young artists will transform their ideas from sketches to pencil drawings.

Power Up & Go Green!

Coshocton Campus |  Ages 15-18, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Students will create electrical and solar circuits and examine how solar energy powers everyday items like a radio, calculator, battery charger and more.

Pataskala Campus | Ages 10-14, 9:00 a.m. - noon | Ages 15-18, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Students will learn how to operate heavy equipment and dig into what it takes to build the foundations of structures. Plus, attendees will get hands-on using remote controls in a sandbox terrain.

Medical Madness

Knox Campus | ​ Ages 15-18, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Students will learn emergency response skills and earn First Aid and CPR certifications while getting a glimpse into the life of a first responder.

PhotoBOMB!

Newark Campus | Ages 10-14, 9:00 a.m. - noon | Ages 15-18, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

From creative camera techniques to photo enhancements in Photoshop, students will learn about aperture, shutter speed and ISO for single lens reflex cameras.
