Civil Engineering Technology- Learning Outcomes

Program Educational Objectives describe what graduates are expected to know and be able to do after graduation or with a few years of experience.​
  1. Utilize practical engineering technology skills within productive, gainful, and ethical careers in architecture, engineering, construction and related industries and organizations.
  2. Contribute to the professional practice of their chosen field through effective communication, leadership, teamwork, and service, while maintaining high ethical and professional standards.
  3. Demonstrate continued life-long learning through professional activities and training, the pursuit of higher educational degrees, and individual professional improvement.
Student Outcomes​

The COTC Engineering Technology Department has adopted the 2014-2015 ABET Criterion 3 Student Outcomes (a-i) as our own Student Outcomes. Graduates in the COTC Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology program should be able to do the following:

  1. ​Apply the knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of the discipline to narrowly defined engineering technology activities.
  2. Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to engineering technology problems that require limited application of principles but extensive practical knowledge.
  3. Conduct standard tests and measurements, and to conduct, analyze, and interpret experiments related to civil engineering technology.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to function effectively as a member of a technical team.
  5. Identify, analyze, and solve narrowly defined engineering technology problems.
  6. Apply written, oral, and graphical communication in both technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature.
  7. Identify the need for and an ability to engage in self-directed continuing professional development.
  8. Demonstrate a commitment to address professional and ethical responsibilities, including a respect for diversity.
  9. Demonstrate a commitment to quality, timeliness, and continuous improvement.
