Addiction Studies Certificate

​​​Become Certified in Addiction Treatment and Make a Difference

The number of citizens affected by substance use disorder is in the millions and Ohio is severely affected. The Addiction Studies Certificate program prepares individuals to work in an entry-level position in many community health programs. Coursework includes training in how to assist individuals and families with a variety of issues arising from addiction problems. 

At COTC, students interested in the Addiction Studies Certificate have flexibility to take classes face-to-face or online. Additionally, this certificate can be completed quickly in just two semesters.

The Addiction Studies Certificate is set up to auto-award a certificate on the Human Services Associate of Applied Science track for those students choosing the Chemical Dependency II elective course. This certificate option is available to any COTC student from other disciplines that interact with substance abuse clients or related addiction issues. 

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for addiction/ substance abuse counselors is expected to increase by 31 percent through 2022. Starting salary is projected at $21,000— 24,000 annually.

Associate of Applied Science​ in Human Services

Students who complete the Addiction Studies certificate are encouraged to keep going because they are well on their way to completing the Associate of Applied Science in Human Services. Talk with an Admissions Representative or click here to learn more about the degree.

Short-term Certificate Grant

The Addiction Studies Certificate is eligible for the short-term certificate grant available to students with demonstrated financial need as well as students who are currently in or exiting foster care. Each student may receive a one-time grant of up to $2,000 to assist with tuition and fees (does not include the cost of books and supplies). To be considered, students must submit and satisfy the requirements on the Short-term Certificate Grant Application or the Short-term Certificate Foster Youth Grant Application
